Overview

JokeVault ("we," "our," or "us") operates the JokeVault web application at jokevault.app. This Privacy Policy describes what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By creating an account or using JokeVault, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

What We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

• Account information - your email address and a hashed (bcrypt) version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.
• Content you create - the jokes, set lists, show logs, tags, and other material you write and save within the app.
• Usage data - standard server logs including IP address, browser type, and timestamps of requests. These are used for security and debugging purposes only.

We do not collect payment information directly. If a paid subscription tier is introduced, payments will be processed by a third-party provider (such as Stripe) and we will not have access to your full card details.

We do not use cookies for tracking, serve advertisements, or collect analytics beyond basic server logs.

How We Use Your Data

• To provide the service - storing and syncing your jokes, sets, and show logs across your devices.
• To authenticate you - verifying your identity when you sign in.
• To communicate with you - sending password reset emails when requested. We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in.
• To maintain security - monitoring for unauthorized access or abuse.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train machine learning models.

Data Storage & Security

All data is stored on servers located in the United States, hosted by Bluehost. We use HTTPS to encrypt data in transit. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage.

While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no internet transmission or storage system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at support@jokevault.app.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers - hosting providers (Bluehost) who process data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to keep it confidential.
• Legal requirements - if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
• Business transfer - if JokeVault is acquired or merged, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified in advance.

Data Retention

We retain your account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data including jokes, sets, show logs, tags, and your email address is permanently deleted from our servers immediately. This action is irreversible.

Server logs are retained for up to 30 days for security purposes, after which they are deleted.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access - you can view all content you've created by signing in to your account.
• Export - you can export your jokes and sets at any time using the Export functions in the app.
• Correction - you can edit your content and change your password directly in the app.
• Deletion - you can delete your account and all associated data at any time via Account > Delete Account in the app.
• Password reset - you can reset your password at any time via the login screen or Change Password in the Account screen.

Children's Privacy

JokeVault is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at support@jokevault.app and we will delete the account promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify users by email. Continued use of JokeVault after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
